Balmain house
The Balmain House is a residential project designed by SAHA (formerly known as Sydney Architecture), with a design that balances both experience and experimental family living. Located in Sydney’s inner city, the house is celebrated for its sweeping city views, long eaves, and a sunken walled garden. A covered walkway connects an existing brick cottage to a rear pavilion, which features a skylight that frames views of surrounding tall gum trees. The house has a secluded courtyard that captures low winter light, while the raised walkway serves as a seating area to enjoy the evening skyline.
The design reflects a peaceful, private atmosphere despite its proximity to the urban environment, with clients noting the home’s transformative impact on their lifestyle. They appreciate how open yet private the home feels, providing a surprising sense of tranquility close to the city. The project has garnered multiple accolades, including awards for its residential architecture and sustainable design.
